Trust

How many posts can be written under the word trust? Endless amounts. Trust is this massive umbrella touching the most sensitive areas of our lives. In the past few months many close to me have dealt with and are currently dealing with issues surrounding this concept.

My idea of trust is that it is an implicit understanding you have with yourself in regards to something outside of your control. We say we place our trust in others, brands, situations, history...everything, but what we are really doing is letting go of control in order to receive some sort of benefit.

Some of the issues that have come up lately among many have been:

trust in a partner's fidelity, both sexually and emotionally
trust in another person's actions
not being trusted
honesty of safer sex and being D/D free

The one that strikes me most today, is the issue of not being trusted. Not being trusted hurts, especially when you deserve it. The opposite is just as painful which is being trusted and not deserving it. These moments of dissonance signify other issues. It can be anything from a lack of true communication, an inability to come to an agreement, the need for self improvement and much more. With this said, I don't think that this means that working through trust issues is pain free or leads to the desired results. Often, delving into these issues leaves indelible scars and leads one to other issues in their lives they may not have thought were significant issues. Is it a matter of character? I don't know, sometimes maybe. Is it a matter of greater social change? Again, I don't know, but sometimes I think maybe...
